12 Years a Slave
I watched this movie because I wanted to know how slavery was. It was also for a project on school.
After watching this movie I realized that we all the same and that it isn't ok to have slavery.
During the last scene of 12 Years a Slave the tears came to me. With the beautiful words and the motion of his face. It is the first time in the film that director Steve McQueen allows you to take a little distance from what you have just seen. And that blow comes hard.
12 Years a Slave is a true story of Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), written down by himself. In 1841 Northup lives in New York. In New York slavery was already forbidden. He is living his own live as a black man. He earns his money as a violin player, has a house, a wife and two children. In the southern states of the US slaves are still being held at that time and Solomon is the victim of a horrible practice from those days. They live from their work in the hospitality industry and from Solomon's violin talent. In March 1841, his wife and children are away from home, he meets Merill Brown and Abram Hamilton, who ask him to come and work as a violin artist at their circus. Solomon agrees and travels with them to Washington, without being on the road. Once in the capital, he is drugged and abducted one night: he wakes up in a cell, chained. He is kidnapped, his identity papers are taken away and he is sold in the south as a slave. One moment he is a free man and a few hours later he is someone's property and he is treated like a animal. 12 Years A Slave is an ambitious movie that not only shows Solomon's tale but also gives glimpses into the lives of his contemporaries. To me, the most stupid and terrible of these stories is that of Nyong'o 's Patsey. She's a great worker and a very strong woman, out picking all the men in the field by hundreds of pounds of cotton every single day. Unfortunately her master (Fassbender) chooses to show his favor with nightly rape, which spurs his jealous wife (Paulson) to repeated assaults to poor Patsey.
I recommend this movie. It is a true story and there is a lot of drama. People who do not know much about the slavery of that time, I would recommend watching 12 Years a Slave.
